ALL’S WRONG AT KISII UNIVERSITY COLLEGE PAGEANT

Comrades at Kisii University College held their annual Mr & Miss Freshers Night last weekend and the event’s organisation was an unprecedented low even by the campus’ standards. To begin with, Club Secrets, which was the venue of choice was so tiny it could easily be mistaken for a washroom and the shady setup for the event only made things worse. The four contestants for the ‘Miss Fresher’ title seemed to have no clue of what modelling was about as they staggered on the makeshift runway in their drab attires and patches of dripping make up. The question and answer session could easily have been mistaken for a stand-up comedy set as the contestants left the small number of comrades who had turned up for the event in stitches with their naive responses laced with heavy accents. They however provided some comedy relief for the audience who appeared dull to a near snooze by the MC of the night who seemed to go on and on about nothing in particular. By the end of the show, the ‘Freshers’ who were a bored moment away from demanding refunds could be heard comparing the event to their high school pageants with a preference to the latter. All is not lost however as the upcoming Mr & Miss USIU scheduled to be held later this month promises to be quite a treat. If past events are anything to go by, the pageant will certainly be a festival of beauty (and hopefully some brains) and the organisers have already begun preparations to ensure the occasion lives up to expectations. This year’s theme will be based on retro-fashion and the USIU fashionistas are already offering fashion tips and advice to the contestants and attendees. Applications for the models interested in contesting for the King and Queen title were closed on Thursday this week and judging by the look of things there will be a lot of eye candy on display at the actual pageant.
